FAQs

Braun Series 9 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
We recommend that you shave before you take a shower. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to your skin. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 9 features an intergrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.

How do I clean my shaver?
The new Braun Series 9 cc shavers feature the Braun Automatic Clean&Charge Station, proven to clean more hygienically than tap water. The 5-action Clean&Charge Station: automatically cleans, charges, lubricates, selects cleaning program and dries at the touch of a button for lasting cutting efficiency. All Series 9 shavers are also waterproof up to 5m for full washability.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.
To maintain optimal performance, we included a replacement part indicator in the display to ensure that you know when to exchange the cutter parts.

Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops?
No, Series 9 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting battery available for Braun shavers.

Where is Series 9 shaver manufactured?
Like all Braun premium shavers, Series 9 is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Germany to ensure the very best build quality and reliability. All of our shavers are designed and tested to last at least 7 years, giving you the peace of mind that you can continue to enjoy the unique Series 9 experience for a very long time.

A different shave... for those who appreciate

Due to me having sensitive skin, I have always avoided having a 'proper' shave, and instead opted to trim using regular hair clippers. This meant that I would always have the stubble effect and never be clean shaved. When the opportunity arose to have a look at the Braun series 9 I researched a fair bit into electric foil shavers as I had never used one. Armed with some useful info regarding skin prep, I decided the Series 9 was the perfect tool to venture into the world of smooth faces and no facial hair! What I had read proved to be very important in how you approach using a foil shaver. Firstly your facial hair needs to be fairly short and coarse. Making this method of shaving more suited to those who shave daily or every other day. People with finer facial hair may find that the Series 9, or any other foil shaver for that matter, struggle and require multiple passes. Secondly you need to make sure that you prep your skin very well before use. Google pre-shave prep. With the prep out of the way, this is a very nice piece of kit to use. It feels very solid and well weighted, plus the head is able to move freely along both axis enabling it to effortlessly follow the contours of your face. Definitely a premium product. One feature I found particularly excellent was the built in edge trimmer. This proved very handy for trimming around sideburns accurately so that you can shave all the way to the edge, as well as trim any hair that was a little too long for the foil to pick up as mentioned earlier. As a new user, it did take me a few shaves to be more comfortable with how I should be using the Series 9. However it is now both easy, convenient, and results in a very close fresh shave. Another excellent bonus of the shaver is how clean it is to use. Given that it collects the majority of the hair inside the cutting head (cassette) itself, it leaves very little mess to clean up. Emptying the cassette and cleaning it is just as simple as clicking it off and placing it under a running tap. It is advised to dry and oil the head afterwards. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience using the Braun Series 9. If you haven't used a electric shaver before, or if you are a shaving warrior looking for your next excellent shaving weapon, the Braun Series 9 should be at the top of your options list. Braun Series 9 9240s

My first impressions of the Braun Series 9 9240s electric shaver were positive. The item is packaged well and comes with a travel case, charger and cleaning brush. Instructions are easy to read and diagrams are clear. Its easy to set up straight from the box and just requires a 1 hour charge before it can be used. The shaver itself is light with an ergonomic design which makes it comfortable to hold and won't slip when wet. Having only really wet shaved over the last 15 years, I was looking forward to my first dry shave. Unfortunately I found it rather uncomfortable as it seemed to be pulling on a lot of the hairs, and missing some around the neck area. The head moves easily along the contours of the face and there is the ability to lock it in place in order to shave the harder to reach areas, but I still found that hairs were being missed. I eventually went back to my trusty Mach 3 razor to shave some areas that the Braun kept missing. On the plus side I did find that where the Braun had worked it was a very smooth, close shave. Certainly closer than I had expected from an electric shaver. I put the 1st shave down to lack of dry shaving experience. Subsequent shaves were more successful but i still found it uncomfortable with the hair pulling and however hard I tried, I found lots of hairs that were always being missed. The shaver is also waterproof and gives you the ability to wet shave as well. I tried this function and found it more comfortable as it moved over my face easier, but it also seemed to be pushing a lot of the shaving gel plus the cut hairs around, rather than sliding the gel off like a razor would. The shaver is very easy to clean, either by running it under a tap or taking the top of the cassette off and cleaning with the brush. I am hoping that with more practice I will get used to the art of dry shaving and come to appreciate this otherwise impressive shaver. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The next generation of shaving

I already bought 2 additional ones already. One for my brother for his birthday and one for my cousin who is just starting to shave, that's how amazingly good this shaver is. So this review will be done not only with my opinion but the opinion of 2 additional people.Let's start from the beginning with THE LOOK AND FEELWhen you see it for the first time it looks bulky, chunky and very heavy and if you are new to shaving quite a bit scarry, but don't be fooled. It is very light, very ergonomic and fits the hand perfectly and has the right composyion of plastic and rubbers so it odes not slip, feel cheap or make your hand sweat during shaving. The electric blue that is added to the body of the shaver makes it look quite stylish in the bathroom and is a product you are happy to keep on display in the bathroom when you are entertaing guests.THE USGAE:My brother (34) summed it up the best after I asked him what he thinks after 2 weeks of usage of his Braun Series 9 by saying: "What took them so long to finally invent a shaver that does not take rip half of your face off during shaving?!"When I asked my cousin (16) his reply was: "Yeah, it's cool. No sweat." And after further probing: " It is fast and I don't get no spots after shaving like some of my mates do."And my opinion is as follows:AMAZING!!!! WOW!!!! LOOK AT MY FACE!!! SO SMOOTH AND NO IRRITATION!!! I AM CLEAN CLEAN SHAVED!!!!That is me still after every shave, ok, now every second shave to my partner. The shaver is really that good. On a 3 day beard it takes me under 5 min to shave and even without a mirror there is never a stary hair left, no nicks, no cuts , no razor burns, just smooth skin. The noise level during shaving is the lowest I ever encountered from an electric shaver and it is not so agressivly vibrating which makes the task of shaving the upper lip 80% more comfortable than with any other electric shaver or trimmer I have ever used before. This has been agreed upon as well with my cousin and brother.None of us had ever any problems, spots or having to redo the shave over and over again or leaving the house with bits of stubble somewhere. I am using a shave oil only, my brother is using shaving soap or cream, depended how he feels and my cousin is not using anything for shaving. The battery life:After a month I have still not recharged my shaver even once, neither did my cousin. My brother only had to once but than he has got such a thick beard that when he grows it out he can keep itmes for safekeeping in the beard without the fear or them falling out EVER. So yeah, the battery life is very good and the little docking staion makes charging the shaver very easy.Overall opinions:Nephew: Best one out there, love it and will stick with Braun for a longer while.Brother: I give it a 9.9/10 not because the shaver is bad, but because it took Barun too long to finally come up with it. There are shooting people to the moon since the 60ies and only now they invented a shaver that doesn't ask for a skin graft after shaving?! SMHMe: The best electric shaver money can but so far. I'm converted!

I've never used an electric shaver before receiving the Braun Series 9, I've only ever used manual razors. However, I've been using this for the past month and I have to say that I'm converted - I will be using this instead of manual razors from now on. When first opening the product, i was a little disappointed that it did not come with a mains adapter. Not having a shaver port in my bathroom, I had to buy a seperate adapter to give the shaver its first charge. As other reviewers have mentioned, the fit of the shaver into the converter is about fiddly and it did take a while to get the shaver to charge properly. That being said, this shaver holds its charge incredibly!! I've been using it nearly every day for the past month and I still have 3 bars of power left. This really surprised me. I brought my shaver on a 2 week holiday along with the charging station but I could have left the charger at home - it's still going strong!I am always clean shaven so can't comment on the shaver's ability to trim beards, etc. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth this electric shaver left my face every day. I was initially a little nervous using it due to my lack of experience with electric shavers, but I quickly realised that it was pretty much impossible to cut myself. Once I built up my confidence using the shaver, I quickly found that I could apply pressure and get great results. One thing I will say though is that I've found that it can be a bit tricky to cut the hairs under my chin/on my neck. I sometimes have to spend a few minutes making sure I catch everything. But overall, I'm very happy. I have very sensitive skin but this shaver does not irritate me or even leave my face red which again I was pleasantly surprised with. I've used this shaver both wet and dry both with great results. I love the convenience of being able to obtain a clean shave on the go without needing to be near a bathroom/sink - perfect for those mornings when I'm running late for work. The travel case is handy and compact, great for travelling with. Overall I'm delighted with this shaver and doubt I will go back to manual razors again. "The Worlds Most Efficient Shaver"

The guys at Braun have sent me their new Series 9 Electric Foil Wet & Dry Shaver to try out which I absolutely LOVE! I've had the same electric shaver for about 4 years now so I was due an upgrade and this new release by Braun is the mother off all upgrades! This particular model is 100% waterproof so can be used when wet or dry shaving and I must say its the closest shave I have ever had from an electric shaver! If your like me and have very sensitive skin, this is perfect for you as it stops wet shave irritation. Its waterproof for upto 5m so if you like you can actually shave while under water! Not sure why you would but its an option! It's hard to make a shaver look good, but Braun have managed it! The whole design is aesthetically pleasing and wouldn't look out-of-place in any bathroom. The charging station is small so no bulky power packs and the wire length is perfect. The black with blue design is super stylish yet futuristic and sleek. Also the battery indicator is clear and simple to read so you can keep on track of battery life.Marketed as "The Worlds Most Efficient Shaver" I must say I have to agree! The thought and technology which has gone into this masterpiece are endless, 2 of my favourite features are the -10-D Contour Adaption - A fully flexible head with floating shaving elements which adapt to your skin and shaves more hair in 1 stroke than any other shaver.Five Shaving Elements - This helps to save time shaving, as it adjusts to your beard type and selects 1 of 5 elements to cut your hair with fewer strokes. The shaver comes with a travel case which I really like, and with its 50 minute battery life its a perfect travel companion! This will easily last you a few weeks if you were to go traveling and still wanted to keep your facial hair tamed!Overall I love this shaver from its design to its actual performance, it ticks all of the boxes for me! I'm a big big fan of electric shavers, and with the wet/dry features its versatility is great. The price could put some people off, but the way I think about it is that its going to last you a good few years, so if you work out how much you would be spending on disposables, it will probably save you money in the long run! Not award winning for me, but a great show!

So here it is, one of the worlds best electric shavers. Free! Everyone loves free, but there's a lot of convincing to do as for the last 20 years I have used a cut throat razor as my shaving tool of choice. I have tried electric shavers in the past and didn't like how it made my skin feel, but this is a well built shaver that deserves a fair try.My first try is from the picture to this review. It's several days of growth and sadly I was expecting to be clean shaved. It's half shaved in the picture and it did my cheeks well, although trying to precisely do the sideburns was fairly tricky to get a good edge. I really struggled with under the jawline and it left patches of hair that just wouldn't cut. Sadly this meant I had to re-shave with my razor, so didn't start well.My second attempt was with less growth, maybe 3-4 days and it was a noticeable improvement, but not perfect. It did leave me having to shave manually again, much to my annoyance. I left it for 3-4 days a few more times and even tried taking it into the shower.Note: at this point I must point out that this was weird, to wet shave. I just don't get it, and it's much more of a pain to clean the foil and razor after a wet shave. I just don't get this as a selling point! So, at this point we are halfway into the thirty day trial. So far, disappointing, especially for the RRP of this device. But, moving on....For the next week I shave every other day, and I must admit I'm happy with the result. There's no noticeable stray hairs it can't cut and certainly seems to prefer this. Ok so it doesn't feel as smooth as it could be but the end result was a very quick and easy shave, without cuts. For the last half a week I've been shaving daily. I seem to have fairly sensitive skin as it left my neck feeling rashy, and needing moisuriser. This is not something I need with a wet shave, but for this trial it was worth doing.Would I personally buy this shaver? No. I don't shave daily and tend to leave it several days at a time. For that reason it's not one for me. If I shaved daily then yes I would certainly consider it, the wide head makes light work of the job and certainly gave a nice feel when shaving regularly.Pro's:Quick and easyReally long battery life between charges (I haven't charged it all month)Large head Cons:Poor at fine detail trimmingThumb naturally rests on one of the buttonsSo there we have it, I may not be the best person to rate, but I did like the shave. If only it was better with more growth under the jaw then I would be singing from the treetops as it's a lot less effort than wet shaving. But, sadly, it's close but no cigar. It's still a study machine that would be a great investment for some. I have given it 4 stars as for an everyday or every other day shaver it would be perfect. It just doesn't do well after 4 days of growth and has poor edging skills. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

A life-changer, seriously.

Do you know when you find something that completely changes your life? Yes, i know it sounds too much, but it completely changed mine.I've always been a wet-shaver and always treated it like some sort of ceremony that lasted forever. It always required a lot of preparation and time to get a smooth skin and sharp shave. Which of-course it made me hate shaving.I completely hated shaving, it used to take too much time and effort. I always thought electric shavers couldn't give a clean/close shave but that was before I tried the Braun Series 9, it completely changed how I behave regarding my beard. The Braun shaver works perfectly and it's very fast! If I am running late for work I just have to run it through my face and in a minute there is no sign of hair. Anywhere. The battery lasts forever, I have been using it 4 times per week for the last 3 weeks with only 1 charge and the display still shows 1 line in the digital display, i guess around 25% and it will go for more than a month in a full charge. Like most electric shavers it doesn't use the standard UK 3 pins so you better have an adapter. The Design design is very robust with a nice weight, it feels very confident and with a tight grip in your hands. It feels like a premium product and judging from Braun's history, I guess it will last forever. The removable head is not the easiest to clean, but I think that is expected for such a complicated set of blades. I don't like facial hair, so I would totally recommend it for someone who wants a clean and close shave. I can definitely say I won't be going back to a wet shave ever again. Better than the 7 series

I Currently use the Braun 7 series which is now quite old and ready to be replaced, so was excited to see what the 9240s had to offer. The first thing I noticed was the shaving head is a lot larger and saves having to go over the same part of ny face and neck twice, it also has 3 foils and seems to pick up hairs laying flat a lot easier again saving on having to re-shave the same area and causing redness / rash. I also noticed that the battery is also much better I Seem to get twice as many shaves compared to my 7 series. The overall appearance is nice, design is clean and modern, the battery indicator is nice and simple to read. I've not used it to wet shave yet, but like the ability to lock the head for dry shaving. The included case worked well, I took it away with me last week and didn't need to worry about it turning on in my suitcase. My only frustration is the stand, sometimes I find it hard to dock and when the shaver is on it, it's a little top heavy. All in all its an upgrade to the 7 series and worth the extra in my opinion and I'm very pleased with its performance. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
